The American High School Skopje curriculum and teaching plan have been designed and implemented according to the State High School Curriculum, established by the Ministry of Education and Science in the Republic of North Macedonia. This means that the courses included in the plan, as well as the teaching hours allotted per week, are equivalent to those in the State’s educational plan.

Teaching Language
All classes in the American High School Skopje are entirely taught in English, with the exception of Macedonian Language, which is taught in Macedonian. Foreign citizens whose native language is other than Macedonian are taught MSL – Macedonian language as a second language, organized and offered depending on their levels of previous knowledge. The students at AHSS can also choose a second foreign language. The current choice is among Italian, German, and French. Language groups are created at the beginning of the year and based on a survey among the students.

Concentrations
The first year of studies is general and all students study the same courses. After finishing the first year, students are given the option of choice of concentration. At the present, the school offers the following:

• Math & Science Studies
• Social Studies

With this choice, students continue to study courses concentrated around these two topics. Should students express interest in other types of courses, we are open to creating a new concentration.

The school also offers extracurricular classes twice a week, and currently, students can choose between the courses of World Art and Gender Studies, graded with pass/fail.
