Philosophy
This policy is designed to support academic progress, to ensure that offered courses are challenging and manageable, and also to allow external candidates to have access to our educational system.
All potential students/parents should undergo IB DP Orientation in order to be informed on the DP, the challenging nature of the offered subjects, course expectations, Core requirements, Academic honesty, Course outlines, and admission policy/procedure.
All students who choose to apply are invited to fill out an Application form, including an IB DP Statement that they have read and agreed to the subjects that are offered and to the rigorous nature of the program and academic deadlines.
Enrollment Criteria
Internal students
- Internal AHSS students must have a minimum final grade of B in each of the subject groups: language/language acquisition/literature; individuals & society; and sciences and math;
- In school, placement test of at least B2 advanced level;
- Motivation letter.
External candidates
- External students (including MYP) must have a minimum final grade of B in each of the subject groups: language/language acquisition /literature; individuals & society; and sciences and math;
- One recommendation from teachers from grades 9 and 10 addressed behaviors, student motivation, and attendance;
- School transcripts (Grades 9 and 10) and/or confirmed by our Ministry of Education (validation documents);
- In school, placement test of at least B2 advanced level;
- Motivation letter.
Transferred students
- Students who transfer from other IBDP schools are welcome. AHSS will work closely with parents and other DP coordinators to ensure as smooth a transition as possible.
Required documents
- AHSS IB DP application form;
- Confirmation of paid tuition/fee;
- Small format photo of the candidate;
- Official report card of the AHSS or other schools;
- A medical document in case of any significant medical condition;
- Applicant must confirm (AHSS IB DP Course confirmation form) which subjects will be taken as SL or HL;
- Recommendation letter for the external student;
- Copy of passport;
- For foreign students – a living permit;
- Any other certificates are welcome.
Interview
- In addition, to present his/her educational background, all students will have an interview that will also demonstrate their willingness for this challenging program and their language ability.
Admission
- Upon consideration of all of the documents submitted and the test/interview, the School will make a decision for admission. If AHSS considers that the candidate is considered with insufficient command of the language, or has inadequate academic preparation, their application may be denied.
