Guest Lecture Series: Exploring the Science Behind Earthquakes.

American High School Skopje recently concluded a captivating guest lecture series titled “Science behind Earthquakes”, organized by AHSS Professor Sara Gjorgjievska. This project, financed by Young Minds and realized by MDSF and the Seismological Observatory, was designed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Skopje earthquake while enhancing students’ understanding of earthquakes as a phenomenon and the application of natural sciences in explaining them.

The project consisted of a series of workshops and lectures, with the primary objective of providing young minds with valuable knowledge about earthquake protection measures. By delving into the scientific principles behind earthquakes, students were equipped with the tools to comprehend this natural phenomenon and to cultivate an awareness of measures that can be taken to mitigate its impact.

The workshops were engaging platforms for hands-on experiments, allowing students to explore the practical aspects of earthquake dynamics. Additionally, expert lecturers shared their insights, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of earthquake studies and shedding light on the latest advancements in seismic research.

By honoring the significance of the Skopje earthquake’s anniversary, this project not only offered a scientific perspective but also served as a reminder of the community’s resilience in the face of natural disasters.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Young Minds, MDSF, and the Seismological Observatory for their invaluable support in realizing this remarkable project. Moreover, we would like to applaud the students of American High School Skopje for their active participation and enthusiasm during the guest lecture series.
