On May 11, 2026, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje (MSU), a closed room exhibition was held featuring works by four teams of high school students as part of the project “Contemporaries in Art History: Youth Perspectives on Art and Society”, led by curator-guide Bojana Janeva in collaboration with Prof. Ilina Jakimovska from the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
The exhibition marked the culmination of a nearly two-month process that included a visit to the exhibition “The East is Still Possible,” from which our students, working along their peers from other schools, selected an artwork to respond to, followed by research, creation of their own works and final presentation.
Despite the complexity of the themes addressed, such as regional history, social injustice, war and violence, the students demonstrated strong awareness of the role of art in engaging with both local and global issues, taking an active and thoughtful stance. The project also introduced them to the museum as a dynamic and creative space where young people are always welcome.
A final public event will soon be organized to conclude the project and present the full process and outcomes to a wider audience.
