Professional Development at AHSS: Interactive Methods for Active Learning

American High School Skopje recently organized a professional development workshop for its teaching staff titled “Interactive Teaching Methods for Active Student Learning.” The workshop focused on strengthening teachers’ competencies in planning and delivering interactive, student-engaging lessons.
The workshop was conducted by Natasha Angjeleska PhD, a lecturer at University American College Skopje, who guided teachers through practical activities, case studies, group collaboration and a simulated lesson using cooperative learning methods.
Our teachers experienced strategies they can directly apply in their classrooms, including a variety of techniques, structured discussions and reflective activities, all aimed at activating prior knowledge, encouraging critical thinking, and fostering teamwork among students. In the final segment, participants discussed practical ways to implement interactive teaching approaches that promote student engagement, collaboration, and continuity in learning. Following the training, teachers are better equipped to plan and conduct lessons using active teaching methods, encourage greater student participation and engagement, apply cooperative and group learning techniques, and create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Continuous professional development remains a key priority at AHSS, supporting high-quality teaching and modern classroom practices.
