Teaching Plan

Innovative Curriculum: AHSS’s Comprehensive Approach to Learning

Teaching Plan

The curriculum at American High School Skopje is meticulously crafted and aligned with the State High School Curriculum as established by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia. This ensures that our course offerings and weekly teaching hours are consistent with those of the national educational framework.

Teaching Language

At American High School Skopje, all classes are conducted in English, with the exception of Macedonian Language, which is taught in Macedonian.

Second foreign language

Additionally, students have the option to study a second foreign language, with choices currently including Italian, German, and Spanish. Language groups are formed at the start of the school year, based on student preferences.

Concentrations

During the first year, all students follow a general curriculum, studying the same set of courses. After completing the first year, students can choose a concentration (Math & Science Studies or Social Studies) that aligns with their interests and career goals.

Extracurricular Classes

We offer extracurricular classes twice a week. Currently, students can choose between courses in World Art and Gender Studies, which are evaluated on a pass/fail basis.

MAP GROWTH

Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, our School has acquired the license for the MAP Growth testing. The MAP Growth is an international assessment used for measuring our students’ achievement and growth in math, reading and language usage. What is so significant about the MAP Growth is not only the results and comparisons of our students’ skills and knowledge in a broad, worldwide context, but also the post-testing reports, that will help us see exactly where we stand, both in terms of curricula and knowledge level, but will also provide us with guidelines what we can do to improve and help our students really grow.
